Tomato Seedling – A way to harvest
There are many ways to harvest tomato seedlings as per one’s choice and resources available. Tomato seedlings should be planted at least 2 weeks before the frost date.
If one wish to grow Tomato seedlings in huge number then it is advisable to grow them in harvesting trays, each tomato seedling should be planted with a minimum distance of ½ inches between them. The few said steps may be followed for a good harvest:
• Use only the best starting mix.
• The seed mix should be mixed properly.
• Keep the tray near warm place, or use heating mats.
• When there is sign of sprouting place the trays under constant light.
• Maintain a fixed temperature in between 50 to 70 degree.
• Transplant the tomato seedlings when true leaves are ½ inch long.
• Bury the seedlings properly and allow them to develop.
• Watering should be done properly to avoid drying of Tomato seeds. Also try avoiding wilting of seedlings due to excess watering. Use fertilizers only when it seems necessary.
• Make a fertilizer mix and use up to 2 feedings of 1 level teaspoon of 15-30-15 to a gallon of water and using that gallon on about 150 plants.
• Transplant the tomato seedlings outside in the garden when they are about 8 to 10 inches tall.
Following these steps will surely result in good harvest. Still there is no hard and fat rule about methods of harvesting, and one can experiment and see the best viable procedure.
